Beantown Boston
When I told everyone I was going to Boston during one of the city’s worst blizzards in years, they thought I was a bit insane. I am the type of person who doesn't let anything stand in their way, especially when it comes to weather. Last year I missed a scheduled trip to San Francisco during this same weekend as my flight was cancelled due to weather conditions in New York. This time around, Amtrak (my train ride out of New York) was still running, which meant I was still going to Boston. I’m also that person you see shopping during a snowstorm and I was that nerd in middle school who showed up to school as long as they were still opened, when everyone else’s parents let them stay home. I never let anything stand in my way from living my life and I wasn't about to start.
My train left Penn Station at 7AM on Saturday morning and I arrived a few minutes early just in time to grab a coffee and a breakfast sandwich and get ready for my journey to Beantown.
I haven’t visited Boston in over five years, besides the couple of times I stopped over on my way to Provincetown. I was excited for this trip and to call Boston my home for two days, even if I was competing with Mother Nature.
Two of my friends joined me as we were there to celebrate one of their birthdays.
We stayed at a darling hotel, Taj Boston (a member of The Leading Hotels of the World,) which is perfectly placed on the corner of Newbury and Arlington Streets. Our view from the 12th floor hotel room overlooked the Public Garden with Boston Common in the near distance. The scene was truly a picture perfect winter wonderland and I couldn't get enough of the view.
The last time I remember being surrounded by so much snow, was when I was a kid. Piles of snow on some streets up to 6+ feet outlined the sidewalks, leaving a narrow paved walkway only big enough for a single file to walk down. Icicles bigger than me hung off the roofs of what seemed to be every building I passed. At times it felt like it was the end of the world, but most of the time I felt like I was a kid again and just wanted to play in the snow.
I spent time running through the snow on top of the Public Garden’s frozen pond under the Swan Bridge, ice-skated on the snowy ice rink near Boston Common’s Frog Pond and even dove into piles of snow for fun; never caring how cold I was. I didn’t have a care in the world and truly felt like I was 12 years old again.
When I wasn't outside gallivanting in the snow, I was keeping warm in my cozy hotel room, or taking a hot shower using Taj's Molton Brown bathroom products (which are among my faves!) I even had time to apply a GlamGlow Thirsty Mud Hydrating Treatment there, which is always great for your face after being out in the dry cold air.
In addition to some great late night room service at Taj Boston, my other favorite meals of the trip were enjoyed at MET Back Bay and The Beehive. Not only were the food and drinks incredible at The Beehive but we had a table front and center by the stage and were entertained by blues band, The Bruce Bears.
The trip made for one of the best weekends of 2015 so far and I think I will be back sooner than I originally planned. Have you ever been to Boston?? Comment below!
