Top 5 Places to Visit in 2015
When browsing endless profiles of singles on my favorite dating apps, I often find “travel” in the “interests” section right below their filtered profile photo. I already assumed everyone loves to travel. It kind of falls into the same category as eating at restaurants and shopping - aren’t these things we all enjoy doing or at least feel like we have to, in order to blend in with the rest of the human race?
I never looked at traveling as a luxury, but rather a necessity – a moment in time to escape from home, reality and responsibility.
I try to travel as often as possible and usually begin to plan my next trip while still on my current trip. I do love my city (NYC), but like any relationship, sometimes we need a little break. Doesn’t everyone say that absence makes the heart grow fonder? One of the best moments for me, is returning back to Manhattan and looking up at the buildings and remembering why I live here. Whenever I return home from a trip, it’s almost like I am opening my eyes to a city I’ve never seen before. I begin to appreciate every bit of detail – a tree I’ve never noticed, or a coffee shop I never sat in. It always feels good to be back home.
Being a frequent traveler and working in the travel industry for almost 10 years, people often turn to me for travel advice. It’s easy to recommend a destination to visit, but you’ll never know if you will like it (there) unless you go see it for yourself.
It’s only January and I've already had my first escape this year to St. John, visiting Caneel Bay Resort. The hotel and destination are truly charming with views so beautiful that a photograph can’t even come close to capturing what it is truly like to witness it all. Background scenes made up of a calm horizon mixed with a sea of sail boats passing by. Grounds of green where the resort stands, that one can only hope to get lost in…
Choosing a destination to visit is half the fun and I urge everyone to create their own wish list for 2015, based on your interests and desires. Just in case you need some help, I've created a list of 5 places you should consider visiting this year:
1. Visit a place you've never been to before. The mystery is half the adventure and you may just discover your new favorite land.
2. A place with water. A nice pool can sometimes be enough, but nothing beats Mother Nature’s ocean. Even if you don’t love the sand or swimming, there is something so calming of looking into the ocean and hearing the sounds of the waves.
3. Further explore the city you live in! Sometimes we ignore what’s in our own backyards and take it for granted. Spend a weekend seeking new things to see and do. Journey to a new part of town- maybe even one you usually try to avoid.
4. Go back to a place you've already visited. It’s kind of like watching a movie you've already seen, but sometimes it’s better the second (or third) time around. You may even see something you didn't see the first time.
5. Think of that place you always said you wanted to go, but haven’t yet. Maybe it’s Paris or the Amalfi Coast? Maybe it’s Boston or London? Make your dreams a reality and plan to finally go. You've spent enough time imagining what it would be like…
